In addition to MGCC's commitment to supporting up and coming talent in the Community through the MGCC U23 Athletic Bursary, MGCC is also committed to supporting various charities, causes and events within the community.
MGCC / GEARS Bike Drive - Thorncliffe Park & Parkdale
Bi-Annually MGCC, in partnership with Gears Bike Shop, hosts a Bike Drive to collect and refurbishes used bicycles. The Bikes are then donated to members of the Thorncliffe Park and Parkdale communities. Both Thorncliffe Park and Parkdale are high density, over-crowded and low income neighbourhoods with extremely limited resources for children. Almost one quarter of the population in are under the age of 14 and Thorncliffe Park is home to North America’s largest elementary school with more than 1,500 children in Kindergarten to grade 5.
2014 - This weekend the MGCC, Gears and the Toronto Police Force, that hosted the 4th MGCC Bike Rally today in High Park. It was an amazing day, where over 100 bikes were given away to family in need. Let’s recognize some key members that are looking awesome in Yellow today:
2013 - MGCC Members Andrew MacEachern and Barry Gordon, with the generous support of Gears Bike Shop, helped collect, refurbish and donate close to 130 bikes!
2011 - MGCC Member Paul Tepsich, with the generous support of Gears Bike Shop, helped collect, refurbish and donate approximately 100 bikes!
Supporting TRAILBLAZERS Tandem Cycling Club
The TRAILBLAZERS Tandem Cycling Club, is a registered charity, which provides recreational cycling to people who have limited or no vision, the opportunity to cycle with sighted volunteers on our tandems (bicycles built for two).
It's an incredible club and they are ALWAYS in need of 'captains', so if you can spare 1 day this summer or 1 day a week there are opportunities for you to get involved.
All volunteers must participate in an orientation (there is an Orientation almost every weekend.) which includes 45 minutes of oral and interactive training, and one hour of tandem riding with coaching instruction.
You can then sign up for 1 or more of the scheduled rides; http://www.torontotrailblazers.org/activities.shtml

- Kevin Wallace and the team at Gears have stored and refurbished over 500 Bikes since the event began in 2011! They were also on hand on Sunday (and in previous years) to provide on site mechanic support and make sure that every child rode away with a safe and fitted bike.
- Andrew MacEachern spearheaded the event for the 3rd year in a row, an incredible feat! As the Bike Rally expanded to a new venue near High Park, Trevor St Arnault and David Prairie were also instrumental in getting the event up and running.
- Proud parents Chris Welsh and Belinda Bain were beaming as Andy (7yrs old) and Nolan (9yrs old) saw the 80 bikes they collected distributed to deserving kids! (Andy, Nolan and their friend Anthony organized a Bike Drive at their school to collect the bikes!)
- The Toronto Police Force set up a great course to help kids test out their new bikes and practice their skills
