Are you ready for the 2024 season?
The Beach Chapter NOW RIDES into our second season!
(available now for selection in 2024 Membership Registration)
See below for ride time & route info, as well as a message from our Beach Leader
After an amazing first year of the MGCC The Beach chapter we are fired up for year two! If you are reading this hopefully you're excited to ride OUTDOORS with us!! Similar to last year, the membership for MGCC The Beach is quick off the starting line (or maybe it's the early bird discount!). We had over 100 registered members already. We looking forward to riding with old and new friends. MGCC's #1 priority is safety for everyone; followed closely by fun!
Please be aware of the groupings (A, B, or C).
Guide to choosing your Ride Level:
- A Rides - are for experienced riders whose cardio and bike handling in a group is top-notch. These are drop rides so riders MUST be familiar with the route and comfortable returning to The Beach on their own if dropped. Target average speed of 30-35kph.
- B Rides - Typically “no-drop” and the group rides as a team with a targeted average speed of 27-30kph.
- C Rides – These are “no-drop” and target intermediate riders or those looking for a recovery ride. The group rides as a team with a targeted average speed of 24-26kph.
Please gage your fitness, experience level and ability/speed for this time of year when picking your group as the pace and distances vary from group to group. You can move up when you're feeling good or move down to accommodate lack of fitness or an injury. Also with your MGCC The Beach membership you can also do any of the Leaside, High Park or Oakville MG rides. BONUS!
REMEMBER - rides are for MEMBERS ONLY (sorry, gotta keep the lawyers & OCA happy), you can also register for the Club on this site or by clicking here.
Typically, the A, B and C rides on Saturday and Sunday all start at 7am when the light is good and safe to ride in. All weekend rides leave from the Beer Store parking lot at Vic Park and Kingston Road. These rides have started already.
Typically, all weekday rides will depart at 5:40a sharp and also leave from The Beer Store parking lot at Vic Park and Kingston Road. Front and back lights compulsory. These will start in early May.
COMMUNICATIONS - please read before you email us with questions:
Other than the ride emails, MGCC The Beach also keeps in touch with WhatsApp -this is the BEST source for the MOST RECENT UPDATES to both weekday and weekend rides, we highly suggest you monitor it if you’re riding with the Beach Chapter!!
We have a What's App MGCC Social Chit Chat - https://chat.whatsapp.com/BUvNL86zgs8CHTB0gQj8rO - general ride/social chat
And a What's App MGCC The Beach Ride RSVP 2024 - https://chat.whatsapp.com/BnJQMbrV9gM4OEGAWQ1JJ1 - strictly ride confirmation by a poll
**PLEASE NOTE - any ride information on whatsapp that is different and/or changed from the published rides as communicated to you by the MGCC Beach should be considered a non-sanctioned ride. We would hope you still ride with a safety-first mentality, but be aware that the ride may not be covered by the OCA and your membership from a liability perspective.
If you want regular notices of the rides then we highly recommend monitoring the ride emails. Hopefully you signed up for our emails/newsletters when you registered, but if not, enter your email on the Club’s home page where is says “Join the Morning Glory Newsletter” and follow the directions. Ride notices go out before the ride.
RIDE NOTES - please read before you show up for a ride!!
- If you show up to ride without a helmet the marshals will not let you ride. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Please download the route you intend to ride (in the ride email) onto your bike computer if you have one.
- Triathalon bikes and/or extension bars are NOT allowed on any rides.
- Please make sure your bike is in good working condition for your enjoyment, safety and safety of those you are riding with.
- Each rider is responsible for their own repairs (should have tubes, levers, CO2 or pump, etc), and on bike hydration and nutrition. BUT if you're new to biking and group riding please don't worry. MG has Marshals on each group ride to help you with any issue you may have and also to answer any questions you may have before and while riding.
- Even though we are riding in groups and starting in daylight on the weekends, it is highly recommended that you still have at a minimum a taillight. For weekday rides you must have front and rear lights to be allowed to ride because these rides start before sun up for most of the riding season.
Wishing you all a safe and fun riding season.
Rubber side down.
