Fraser Chapman Club president and Co-Founder From those early mornings in April of 2008 when Chris Ferron and I decided to chase down every cyclist we saw to ask them to join us on a bike ride to a community of 1,200 awesome and like-minded individuals around the GTA has been quite a wild and enriching adventure. I have learned a lot about myself as a bike rider, a leader, and as a person. The MGCC has provided me an outlet for two main outlets of energy in my life – physical fitness and friendship. The relationships I have made through the MGCC, with people whom I would have never crossed paths with, have forever changed my life. I will be forever grateful for this experience. #getupandgo |
Greg Connor Sponsorship & Youth programS What does MGCC mean to you? "From an inauspicious start, cycling and the MGCC has grown to become an integral part of my life – fitness, friends, family, volunteering and more! As father of five, it seemed only natural to take on the youth initiatives, and again as father of five, figure out how to pay for all of it by growing our Sponsorship efforts at the Club. I take great pride in all that the Club has to offer, and all that we have collectively created." [email protected] |
Karen Wagman Treasurer What does MGCC mean to you? I bought my first road bike and joined the MGCC in spring 2015 with the goal of participating in my first Ride To Conquer Cancer in June 2015. My initial reason for picking up cycling was to participate in the RTCC in memory of my mom who lost her battle with cancer in November 2014 and I have participated every year since. But the main driver for keeping me on the bike for all these years have been the friendships and connections I have made through the MGCC. I have never considered myself sporty or athletic, but the MGCC has been such an inclusive and welcoming environment for even the most inexperienced rider like myself and that positive experience has kept me in the saddle year after year. For me, the MGCC has fulfilled my social, physical and mindfulness cravings for many, many mornings and now I can’t think of a better way to start my day. |
Tom Hsu Oakville chapter representative What does MGCC meant to you? “I found the joys of club riding after spending many solo hours training for triathlons. Looking forward to a long bike ride was not something I thought possible until I found the pleasure of cycling with organized groups. There is nothing so smooth and satisfying as a synchronized cycling paceline spinning along a stretch of road. With MGCC, I always look forward to spending my mornings on a bike, chatting with friends. And then followed by the reward of a post ride coffee and snack! Diversity, equity and inclusivity within cycling is an important topic to me and a mandate that we will continue to strive for at the Oakville Chapter.” |
Dave Morgan HIGH PARK REPRESENTATIVE What does MGCC mean to you? “MGCC has been a gift in my life! Here, I have made friends, shared laughter, suffered in silent companionship, and celebrated the start of each new day. My hope is that MGCC continues to be a place for new members to connect through sport, companionship, and adventure. Rider safety is a passion of mine. I’m very open to hearing suggestions about how we can better ensure that our club rides stay safe and welcoming.” |
Sasha Gollish Safety and Advocacy "You may not see me on a bike but I’m in the background helping to maintain the fun factor of the rides through the promotion of road safety and advocacy. I’ve been a MGCC member since 2010, where cycling spring boarded me to a fitter version of me. I now spend more time on my feet as a runner as a member of Team Canada’s Track and Field Team. #AlwaysPlay" |
Daragh Mansworth Beach REPRESENTATIVE What does MGCC mean to you? We just started The Beach chapter with other like minded Beach residents in 2023 and it has been highly rewarding. For me MGCC means having a great reason to get out on my bike as much as possible and sharing the joy of group riding with new and old friends. Together exploring, having fun and improving our riding in a safe and inclusive environment. |
David Prairie HIGH PARK REPRESENTATIVE What does MGCC mean to you? "For me, MGCC is not really about cycling, it’s about people. I find the most rewarding ad enjoyable aspect of the club is getting to know the members. Sure we ride bikes but we also get to spend hours outside exercising and have plenty of time to have meaningful conversations. I feel fortunate to have met so many fantastic and interesting people. Plus, if I am nice, perhaps they don’t mind me drafting." |
