Fraser Chapman Club president and Co-Founder From those early mornings in April of 2008 when Chris Ferron and I decided to chase down every cyclist we saw to ask them to join us on a bike ride to a community of 1,200 awesome and like-minded individuals around the GTA has been quite a wild and enriching adventure. I have learned a lot about myself as a bike rider, a leader, and as a person. The MGCC has provided me an outlet for two main outlets of energy in my life – physical fitness and friendship. The relationships I have made through the MGCC, with people whom I would have never crossed paths with, have forever changed my life. I will be forever grateful for this experience. #getupandgo |
Greg Connor Sponsorship & Youth programS What does MGCC mean to you? "From an inauspicious start, cycling and the MGCC has grown to become an integral part of my life – fitness, friends, family, volunteering and more! As father of five, it seemed only natural to take on the youth initiatives, and again as father of five, figure out how to pay for all of it by growing our Sponsorship efforts at the Club. I take great pride in all that the Club has to offer, and all that we have collectively created." gc@boostmg.com |
Craig Laurence Treasurer What does MGCC mean to you? "After completing the 2012 Ride to Conquer Cancer, solo rider Craig Laurence joined the club in 2013 after his wife noted that his longest run ever was from living room to fridge, and that 18 holes of cart golf didn’t qualify as exercise. That was 45lbs ago. This sport has brought him best-ever fitness along with a lot of carbon fibre and stretchy lycra things. Craig covered off marshalling and skills development in his Board duties last year and becomes the club Treasurer and Skills Development guy for 2018. “MGCC has provided me the education, opportunity and challenge towards improved fitness, and introduced me to hundreds of like-minded people who are an absolute blast to ride with. Encouraging and thoughtful - we’ve all got each others’ back." |
Kelvin Mahli Oakville chapter representative What does MGCC meant to you? "MGCC was the second club I joined and immediately felt welcome. It's been 3+ years now and the sense of belonging is even greater. While I don't live in Oakville, it's a pleasure to make the 18km journey to the start of each ride. A personal challenge is to keep the conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusivity going." |
Dave Morgan HIGH PARK REPRESENTATIVE What does MGCC mean to you? “MGCC has been a gift in my life! Here, I have made friends, shared laughter, suffered in silent companionship, and celebrated the start of each new day. My hope is that MGCC continues to be a place for new members to connect through sport, companionship, and adventure. Rider safety is a passion of mine. I’m very open to hearing suggestions about how we can better ensure that our club rides stay safe and welcoming.” |
Sasha Gollish Safety and Advocacy "You may not see me on a bike but I’m in the background helping to maintain the fun factor of the rides through the promotion of road safety and advocacy. I’ve been a MGCC member since 2010, where cycling spring boarded me to a fitter version of me. I now spend more time on my feet as a runner as a member of Team Canada’s Track and Field Team. #AlwaysPlay" |
Connor Gregory SOCIALS + RACING What does MGCC mean to you? A latecomer to cycling (and most group rides...) my discovery of the sport was accompanied by an entirely new approach to socializing one that now defines every aspect of my life. A High Park chapter local, I was drawn to MGCC for the same reasons as most; community and friendships layered over physical activity during the rare peace and quiet of city mornings that makes a 5am wake-up so worth it. A member of the Ascent Cycling Team and an advocate for safe streets, cycling is way more than a hobby to me, just like Morning Glory is much more than just my cycling club." |
David Prairie HIGH PARK REPRESENTATIVE What does MGCC mean to you? "For me, MGcc is not really about cycling, it’s about people. I find the most rewarding ad enjoyable aspect of the club is getting to know the members. Sure we ride bikes but we also get to spend hours outside exercising and have plenty of time to have meaningful conversations. I feel fortunate to have met so many fantastic and interesting people. Plus, if I am nice, perhaps they don’t mind me drafting." |
