MGCC Thornhill

MGCC is Ontario's largest cycling club, with chapters across the region. Welcome to the Thornhill chapter - a community of riders north of the city!

Please reach out to Gavin ([email protected]) if you have any questions or want help with anything related to the MGCC Thornhill chapter.
You must be a member to ride with MGCC. Your membership gets you access to rides with any MGCC chapter across the city.
Not sure yet? Try us for three weeks, no commitment, full refund if it's not your thing.

RIDE DETAILS

LOCATION

Rides start at the Thornhill Community Centre at 7755 Bayview Ave, Thornhill. This is on the north-east corner of Bayview and John Street.

RIDE TIMES

We ride Tuesday to Sunday from early spring to late fall (actual dates depend on the weather):
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: Start at 5:45am and typically end by 7:00am
  • Saturday and Sunday: Start at 7am
Ride distances range based on group level and fitness. For example, we start the season with shorter rides and add distance as fitness grows through the summer. See below for more details by group level.
Routes are published via WhatsApp to members.

RIDE LEVEL

Ride groups and distances are subject to change based on participation, weather, and member interests. This following is intended as a general guideline and is subject to change.

A Rides: for experienced riders whose cardio and bike handling in a group are top-notch. These are drop rides so riders MUST be familiar with the route and comfortable returning on their own if dropped. Target average speed of 30-35 km/h. Weekend rides are typically 80–140 km (and sometimes longer) depending on the time of year, fitness levels, and member interest.
B Rides: these are “no-drop” rides and the group rides as a team with a targeted average speed of 27-30 km/h. Weekend rides are typically 80–140 km (and sometimes longer) depending on the time of year, fitness levels, and member interest.
C Rides: these are “no-drop” rides and target intermediate riders or those looking for a recovery ride. The group rides as a team with a targeted average speed of 24-26 km/h. Weekend rides are typically 50–80 km depending on the time of year, fitness levels, and member interest.

CORE VALUES

Our core values are rooted in a desire to enjoy life and perform at our best. We recognize that these values are not for everyone. If the following describes you, then we’d love to ride with you!

We are kind: Sometimes all it takes is a smile and saying “hello” to make people feel welcome. We meet people where they are and do what we can to help them enjoy the ride.

We show up: A promise made is a promise kept. We show up for each other and use our unique abilities to grow a strong community of cyclists who enjoy spending time together.

We have fun: We all experience fun in our own way. Sometimes it’s Type 1 Fun and other times it’s Type 2 Fun (fun now vs. fun later). What matters most is that we are here to enjoy a great ride with friends.
